The Capriotti’s Story
Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop opened in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1976. Brother and sister duo, Alan and Lois Margolet, began with the simple goal to create a unique sandwich shop for “real turkey lovers” using real homemade ingredients. Honoring their Italian heritage, they named their sandwich shop after their grandfather, Philip Capriotti, who loved to cook traditional Italian food.
So it began, the tradition of roasting whole turkeys in-house every night to serve the next day in a variety of popular sandwich recipes—including their signature best-seller, “The Bobbie”. Lines soon formed around the block.
Capriotti’s grew very organically in the Delaware region for the first few years and eventually, Lois decided to retire to Las Vegas. However, retirement wasn’t in the cards and she soon opened a Capriotti’s just off the strip. Again, she found many customers who loved great sandwiches made with fresh homemade ingredients and again Capriotti’s grew to add more locations in Las Vegas!
