Things have been busy here at Capriotti’s. From the blockbuster acquisition of Wing Zone to our expansion of digital ghost kitchens, there hasn’t been any sign of slowing down in 2021 thus far.

Recently, our very own Chief Development and Operations Officer for Capriotti’s and Wing Zone, David Bloom, sat down with Jerome Knyszewski of Authority Magazine. In their interview, appropriately titled “David Bloom of Capriotti’s + Wing Zone: How To Take Your Company From Good To Great,” David was able to share some of the foundations, ideals, and principles that has truly taken Capriotti’s from a good sandwich shop to one of the great leaders of our industry. As well as some useful lessons he’s learned from his decades of experience searching for the right business opportunity for himself. Here are some key takeaways from that interview:

What Makes a Good Company Even Better?

When asked about what takes a company from good to great, David had this to share. “The easiest ways I have learned to share this is the four P’s, which if done right, results in the fifth P: People, Plan, Process & Performance = Profit.” While the later four are essential to taking your franchise brand to the next level, the first P is by far the most important – people. “The most important thing here is value alignment combined with the ability and desire to get done what needs to be done. Once you have the right people on the bus, you have a foundation to build upon. Without it, you are just building a house of cards that will eventually collapse.”

As seen in Capriotti’s leadership team, any right combination of people can truly make the difference in whether a franchise sinks or swims in the market. Capriotti’s team is excited to bring their proven business leadership and plans for expansion to Wing Zone.

Why It’s Important Have Patience

Another huge component of David Bloom’s recipe for success is his dedication to building a reputation that doesn’t come with simply selling a product to a customer. “Building a reputation that makes people want to be a part of whatever business venture you may be doing because they trust and believe in you is one of the greatest compliments we can receive,” David shared. “We work hard to be genuine, to invest ahead of growth and to do whatever it takes to fulfill our promises. Those are accretive to our reputation and pay off exponentially in the long term.”

The biggest piece of advice David shared when it comes to avoiding burn out and thriving in the industry is another P word – patience. “Great reputations are built over time. So enjoy the ride, and run the marathon seeking wisdom, experience and knowledge while building on your track record of showing up and giving it your best every day. No single event, relationship, win, or loss determines where we end up over the span of a career.” With so many restaurants bouncing back and looking to restart their engines in 2021, we believe this is a notable piece of advice and may resonate with business owners across the country.
